Parasyte: The Grey, which made its debut on April 5, 2024, received immense appreciation from fans and critics. With an IMDb rating of 7.3/10 and 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, it has ranked as one of the best live-action spin-offs of a Manga series.

Following the debut season, fans have started anticipating a second season for the series. While renewal rests in Netflix’s hands, here’s all you need to know about Parasyte: The Grey Season 2.

Will There Be a Parasyte: The Grey Season 2?

Since Parasyte: The Grey’s debut season premiered recently, Netflix might take months for a renewal. A Netflix series’ continuation is entirely based on its performance and its garnered viewership.

As of April 2024, here’s what the performance of the Manga series is,

  • The sci-fi South Korean series has ranked in “Daily Top 10 TV Lists” in 91 countries globally. Meanwhile, it also included the United States, where the series claims a second position.
  • After four days on the streaming giant, it garnered 6.3 million views. While claiming itself in the top 10 positions, Parasyte: The Grey was slightly behind My Name, making the series “6th most popular K-drama on Netflix.”

Director’s Comment on Renewal Possibilities

On the other hand, the series’ director, Yeon Sang-Ho, in an interview, commented on the possibility of the series. He said,

I couldn’t have just given [him] one line to say during filming the ending scene and told him to do it. The ending scene is set about eight years after the events of Parasyte: The Grey. I told actor Suda Masaki a very specific story. I explained when this character [Izumi Shinichi] came into play, and he understood and acted accordingly. It’s difficult to give details, but there are plans. But if Season 2 is produced, I can say that Shinichi will have a role to some extent.

In the same interview, Yeon Sang-Ho added that the renewal is entirely in the hands of Netflix. He added,

That’s not something I can decide. It’s up to Netflix. I think it [the story] will be about digging into something after eight years have passed. There is no limit to imagination, but it depends on whether it gets greenlit for production.

Parasyte: The Grey Season 2: Expected Plot

In the concluding episode of the series, we witness Shinichi Izumi, the protagonist introducing himself. With the protagonist’s introduction, the series opened its path for a renewal possibility. It can work as a sequel to the original Manga, wherein Shinichi Izumi never left Japan. In the series, Shinichi Izumi and Su-In never met; however, he arrived at The Grey Headquarters, introducing himself to Choi Jun-Kyung.

The concluding introduction opens possibilities stating that the parasite threat is large, and in the next season, we can witness him assisting Choi-Jun Kyung and Grey. Besides, in the final episode, the parasite within him, Migi, is dormant, similar to Su-In and Heidi. However, their meet-up can lead to the waking up of Migi.
